In tough environments with humidity and dust, it is advisable to properly protect the network connectors. For this, we suggest to use IP67 data outlets as you can see on the left Special patch cables are required for correct usage.

Industrial hardware keyboard versus on-screen keyboard

Depending on the requirements, the environment and/or budget, any type of keyboard can be used. An on-screen keyboard is a keyboard which is displayed upon the screen. It can be useful in these situations:

  • Limited space available
  • Budget reasons
  • When a screen is large enough
  • Reasons of hygiene
  • Special configuration according the application

An industrial hardware keyboard is a keyboard with a certain protection level. Several models exist. Important characteristics of a good keyboard are:

  • Keys are covered with one foil
  • Integrated touchpad (replacing the mouse)
  • Limited size and use of space

RFID solutions

If your company wants to comply with traceability regulations, then this involves that all products must be identified at any time. Even the semi-manufactured products during production. In environments with high humidity and exposure to water, fat, oil,… it can be very hard to use paper or plastic printed labels. To say the least, this would be a waste of material, and very expensive.

RFID can be a solution in this case. When applying this, it comes down to identify all types of carriers, used to transport the goods, with a RFID tag. A carrier can be a trolley, a stainless steel box on wheels, a machine (e.g. tumbler, cutter, cooking chamber, ...).

What we need for this solutions is:

  • RFID rewritable tags (mostly with facility to mount on metal)
  • An RFID tag reader/scanner (basically a PDA that reads barcodes and RF-ID tags) or
  • A fixed reader solution in special cases.

Servers

IC-trace software installations require a server, running (Debian) Linux. In many situations we also install a Microsoft Windows™ © server software (basic version), used for logging, print tool, file sharing. It is important to select a physical server that meets the following requirements:

  • Compatible with recent versions of VMware ESXi™ (any brand on the VMware compatibility list)
  • Fast hard disk (10K or 15K rpm)
  • Redundancy according requirement and budget (power supply, RAID-1, 10 or 5 + hot-spare disks)
  • Sufficient internal memory (RAM): 4 GB for Linux, 2 GB for VMware, 8 GB or more for Windows server.
